The Consequences of Neglecting Teacher Development

When administrators overlook the personal growth of their teachers, a cascade of challenges unfolds:

  • Increased Workload: Administrators bear a heavier workload, taking on leadership responsibilities that should be carried by empowered teachers. This imbalance can lead to burnout and hinder the overall efficiency of the school.

  • Strategic Setback: Administrators must redirect valuable time towards addressing individual issues, resolving conflicts, and managing team dynamics when teachers lack the skills to handle these challenges independently. This strategic setback can impede the school's progress.

  • Emotional Exhaustion: Administrators become the sole decision-makers and problem solvers, facing the pressure of resolving all campus-related issues. The emotional exhaustion resulting from this burden can affect leadership effectiveness and well-being.

  • High Turnover and Hiring Challenges: Administrators find themselves in a constant hiring cycle to replace teachers lacking essential skills for professional workplace relationships. This continuous turnover disrupts stability and consumes valuable time.

  • Resentment in Relationships: Limited time for meaningful connections with educators leads to growing resentment. Teachers may feel disconnected from their Administrators, impacting morale and hindering the establishment of a positive and collaborative school culture.

  • Struggle for Long-Term Success: Micromanaging teachers due to a lack of personal leadership inhibits sustained success. A school's ability to thrive in the long term is compromised when Administrators are stretched thin and cannot focus on strategic growth.

Investing in your teachers' personal growth is not just about their development; it's a strategic imperative for the overall success and well-being of your school community.

HOW I WORK WITH SCHOOLS

My role as a facilitator sets me apart in several key ways:

As a Facilitator, I am:

  • Trained in Facilitating Meaningful Work: I specialize in guiding groups through meaningful work, focusing on collaborative processes that drive positive outcomes.

  • An Expert in Tools and Processes: I am equipped with a wealth of expertise in experiential facilitation tools and processes.

  • Able to Provide Helpful Questions: Instead of delivering solutions, I offer thought-provoking questions that empower your people to explore and discover their own insights.

  • Actively Engaging Participants in the Process: Collaboration is at the heart of my approach. I actively engage participants in the process, ensuring a sense of ownership and commitment.

  • Committed to Serving as a Guide, Not a Hero: Rather than swooping in as a hero with all the answers, I act as a guide, empowering your people to unlock their full potential.

In comparison, a Consultant is:

  • Trained in Assessments: Consultants are often trained in assessments, focusing on evaluating and analyzing existing situations.

  • An Expert in the Industry Subject: Their expertise lies in the subject matter of the industry, providing specialized knowledge.

  • Able to Provide Feedback and Strategies: Consultants typically offer feedback and present strategies based on their expert analysis.

  • Observing the Client at Work: Consultants often observe clients in their work environment to gather insights and data.

  • Serving as a Problem Solver: Acting as problem solvers, consultants are often brought in to identify and address specific challenges.

Professional development Themes for Educators

All of my work is customizable. I work with schools face-to-face and remotely. The topics listed below can be utilized as single workshops, a part of a series, or included in a full day event.

LEADERSHIP IS INFLUENCE:

One fundamental truth that high-performers hold tightly to is the idea that leadership is influence! This is a concept that leaders at all levels must embrace. When educators leverage their influence for good, everyone wins!

The Drama Triangle in Education:

Discover the roles we each play in unhealthy and unproductive conflict. The framework we will use is called the Drama Triangle. These roles are alive in most industries, but seeing how they apply in education is a game-changer!

Creating a Culture of Belonging:

We all play a role in creating the culture we function in. Healthy groups are intentional about creating a culture of belonging by rediscovering their strengths and restoring their relationships.

What Else Could it Be:

Too often, we think we know what an issue is, but when we employ the question, "What else could it be? " we may discover unnamed problems and underlying issues. When we solve the wrong problem, we actually create more problems! Asking this question insures we are solving the right problem.

MANAGING DIFFICULT People:

Learn the five reasons why a person might not do what you are asking them to do. These five reasons will change how you respond to difficult people and difficult moments!

CONFLICT, Let's talk about it:

High-performing students, teachers, and school leaders are willing to discuss and address conflict. Understanding your default conflict style facilitates more productive relationships. Healthy teams shift from avoiding conflict to addressing conflict.

LEADING CHANGE:

Discover the six most common behaviors observed when leading change. Recognizing and naming these behaviors benefits the entire school community.

THE FOUR CULTURES OF CONCERN:

Schools and educational organizations should avoid four distinct cultures. By identifying and understanding the behaviors associated with each of these cultures, your educators and leaders can make decisions that contribute to the cultivation of a high-performing culture.

Customized topics:

The topics above were first designed to meet the needs of a specific group. I am always willing to create new content to address the challenges your people are facing!

Testimonials From EDUCATORS:

"We have invited Molly to facilitate our faculty retreat twice. She understands the stress educators experience as we prepare for a new school year, and she knows that our minds are racing in so many different directions! Molly leads our group through low-pressure activities of self-reflection, then interactive activities, and finally a creative element for the group that connects to leadership, communication, and teamwork. There was so much laughter as we learned more about ourselves and our team!"

Michelle Donnelly

School Administrator

"Working with Molly was a breath of fresh air! In the past, I have dreaded our in-service events, but Molly does things differently. I love her creative approach of bringing us into the conversation. She doesn't talk at you, she talks with you. Her events have become the highlight of my semester!"

Jayna Davis

2nd Grade Teacher

"Little did I know that bringing Molly in during a time of uncertainty and hopelessness would lead to a four-year journey of digging deep and rethinking communication with one another and questioning the “this is how we’ve always done it” mentality. I say “Hallelujah” for Molly busting the idea that we learn from walking around a crowded room to perform get-to-know-you activities. Instead, she provides fun and challenging hands on tools for you and your colleagues to work through together. I have had the opportunity to be a part of several of Molly’s trainings, and every single time I walk away feeling personally rejuvenated and professionally renewed."
